The Auburn Enlarged City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Amy Mahunik as principal at William H. Seward Elementary School effective July 26, 2017.
Mahunik is no stranger at Seward Elementary, as she not only completed her administrative internship at the school as an Assistant Principal during the 2016-17 school year, but she was also an elementary teacher at Seward for 11 years. During her role as Assistant Principal, she gained excellent experience managing staff, optimizing initiatives in building a positive school culture, collaborating with stakeholders, and maintaining a strong instructional focus that promotes student success.
“As a school principal, I aspire to create a positive school culture and strong educational programs conducive to student learning and development,” Mahunik said. “I believe that students will respond favorably to positive reinforcement and a structured environment where expectations are explicitly communicated and where they are provided with multiple pathways to achieve instructional and interpersonal goals.”
Prior to completing her administrative internship at Seward Elementary, Mahunik was a Literacy Coach in the Auburn School District for five years where she supported teachers in all five of the district’s elementary schools, and she was a classroom teacher for 14 years as well.
Mahunik holds her Post Master’s Advanced Graduate Certificate for Educational Leadership, Master’s in Reading for Grades K-12, and certifications in Building Leadership, District Leadership, Reading, and Elementary Education.
With core strength and dedication to collaboration and effective communication skills, along with management and measurement of school initiatives, Mahunik is sure to make a smooth transition into the principal’s role.
